Savoury Bacon Bread

If it’s one thing that is true about me is that i love breads and love experimenting with it as well. Savoury Bacon Bread is perfect to when you feeling for something a bit different.

Ingredients

  • 31/4 cups plain flour
  • 3/4 cup of oat flour (homemade or store bought)
  • 1/2- 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup bacon fried
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tablespoon flax meal
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 11/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • in a mixing bowl add plain flour, oat flour (if you are using homemade oat flour be sure to soak it for at least 20 minutes before using to avoid your bread being dry), shortening, sugar, yeast, salt and bacon
  • on low speed, mix ingredients until combined. while mixer is still running and on low speed, add in oil and water. allow dough to form (about 8 minutes) . lightly grease a large bowl and place dough. allow to sit for about an hour or until doubled in size
  • once risen, punch dough in middle and return to mixer to beat for another 3 minutes. remove from mixer and place on a lightly floured countertop. knead gentle for a couple seconds and cut into 2 even halves. form into bread and place in lightly greased loaf pans. allow to sit for another 45 minutes
  • place in preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes depending on your oven
  • once finished, remove from oven. lightly brush the top of the breads with oil or melted butter while still in the pans to keep the crust nice and soft
  • remove breads from pan and place on rack to finish cooling. serve by itself or with any side of choice
